Each year, Harvard BLSA puts together teams that compete in regional and national BLSA competitions. Competitions include Mock Trial, Moot Court, and International Negotiations. Last year, our teams performed very well. Our Mock Trial teams won first and second place at the Regional Competition, and one of them went on to win the National Championship. The Competition committee plans to build on this success this year to bring more championships back to HBLSA.
This year, Harvard BLSA has also forged a partnership with the Boston Debate League by serving as mentors for student teams and judges throughout the year at tournaments. The Boston Debate League brings together an active community of students, teachers, administrators, and community leaders devoted to improving the education and life skills of disadvantaged urban youth in Boston through debate. Boston Public Schools (BPS), which has an 85% minority population and 72% of students on free or reduced cost lunch, has invested substantially in debate, and is a major partner in the program and the institutional home for the League.
